Roggiero J. Spillere
I currently serve as a Lecturer in Economics at Suffolk University in Boston and am completing a Doctor of Law and Policy degree at Northeastern University, with an expected graduation date of 2027.
Prior to entering academia, I spent more than three decades in the global asset-management industry. My career included leadership roles spanning Boston, London, Hong Kong, and Tokyo, providing firsthand experience with the opportunities and challenges created by globalization and international markets.
Over the course of my career, I have led teams, managed global business initiatives, and worked extensively across North America, Europe, and Asia. My experience includes assignments in Boston, London, Hong Kong, and Tokyo, as well as shorter-term engagements in Frankfurt, Singapore, and Sydney. These experiences continue to shape my perspective on globalization, institutional legitimacy, economic change, and public policy.
I grew up in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, a former manufacturing community that experienced many of the economic changes associated with globalization and deindustrialization. Those experiences continue to influence my academic interests and research.
My current research examines questions of economic justice, democratic legitimacy, and global trade governance, with particular emphasis on the World Trade Organization and the evolving debate surrounding globalization.
In addition to teaching and research, I am the author of Reflections on Policy, Economics, and Society, a weekly publication exploring economics, public policy, globalization, ethics, and contemporary social issues. The publication currently reaches more than 30,000 readers.
I hold citizenship in the United States, Italy, and the United Kingdom and have a longstanding interest in international education, comparative public policy, and global engagement.
Beginning Fall 2027, I will be available for visiting lectureships, visiting scholar appointments, conference presentations, and related academic engagements.
